Music has always been woven into Essence Goldman’s life.

Raised by artist parents in Northern California, the sixth-generation San Francisco native grew up surrounded by creativity, storytelling, and the belief that art can bring people together. Even her name reflects that spirit. Named “Essence” by her free-spirited parents, she was immersed in music and self-expression from an early age, developing the curiosity and independence that continue to shape her work today.

As a songwriter, performer, and creative leader, Goldman has built a career rooted in connection. Her songs draw from the traditions of Americana, folk, country, rock, and roots music while remaining deeply personal and emotionally direct. Influenced by storytellers such as Tom Petty, Lucinda Williams, Dolly Parton, and Gillian Welch, she writes with an honesty that balances vulnerability, resilience, humor, and hope.

That authenticity has earned her audiences far beyond traditional genre boundaries.

Throughout her career, Goldman has shared stages with artists including Tom Petty, Jason Mraz, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Colvin, Natalie Merchant, Chrissie Hynde, Steve Miller, Pat Benatar, and Linda Perry. Her work has also attracted national and international attention through a variety of creative projects that highlight her commitment to storytelling and community.

That philosophy informs her work as a voice coach, educator, and founder of Believe Music Heals, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of music. Created alongside guitarist, songwriter, and producer Danny Uzilevsky, the project grew from a musical partnership built on shared values and a mutual love of timeless American roots music. Together, they blend rich vocal harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, and organic musicianship into a sound that feels both classic and contemporary. Their performances draw on the tradition of great musical partnerships while carving out a voice distinctly their own.
