The project bridges fiction and reality, featuring "lost" songs written by acclaimed novelist and former Wall Street Journal music critic Jim Fusilli. Originally penned during Fusilli’s years in Greenwich Village, the tracks served as the inspiration for his 2025 mystery novel, A Song for Katy Shayne.

Upon reading the novel, Blue Élan co-founder Kirk Pasich partnered with co-producer Colin Devlin to bring the fictional protagonist's music to life. They enlisted Suzanna Spring (Mustangs of the West) to provide the voice of the novel’s titular character, backed by the newly formed Black Canyon City Band.

These songs "deserved to live beyond the page,” says Pasich. “We imagined how Katy Shayne might have performed the songs, from the smoky folk clubs of early New York to the sweeping sound of what might have been her Black Canyon City Band years.” Fusilli, who hadn't performed the material in decades, adds: “With Kirk Pasich and Colin Devlin guiding them, the Black Canyon City Band found new colors and possibilities in the music”

“Girl I Remember (BCCB)” is available now on all streaming platforms.
