Raul Pacheco’s latest solo release blends cinematic romance, slow-burning sensuality and intimate storytelling
Man Boy Brown — the solo alter ego of Raul Pacheco, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and co-founding member of the three-time Grammy-winning Los Angeles institution Ozomatli — releases his new single “The Word” today, a slow-burning, romantic track steeped in sensuality, longing, and cinematic storytelling.

Following the release of “Moving On” late last year, “Dulce Cancion” in January, and “Golden Ride” in March, “The Word” continues to reveal the emotional and musical depth of Pacheco’s first solo album under the Man Boy Brown name. Referencing Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief, the song unfolds like a classic bolero—elegant, intimate and charged with tension.
The romantic fantasy of ‘The Word’ has a slow-burning sensuality, like the bolero, the sexual tension almost palpable. Explains Pacheco. “I wrote it during the pandemic, when I had just met someone, and she moved in right away, but it didn’t work out. The song is about me writing this story from the beginning as I go—and who knows where it ends?”
As Man Boy Brown, Pacheco explores a more personal side of his songwriting, stepping away from the political urgency often associated with Ozomatli to focus on love, reflection, growth, and human connection. His solo work blends romantic Latin ballads, Mexican corridos, and spacious arrangements that allow each song to breathe, creating a body of work rooted in both memory and forward motion.
Beyond the music, Pacheco continues his curated neighborhood community variety shows—special evenings built around local artists and musicians from the surrounding neighborhoods. The events reflect his lifelong commitment to community, collaboration, and cultural exchange, values that have shaped his career from Ozomatli to Man Boy Brown. The next gathering takes place May 14 at Eastside Luv (Doors at 8pm, show at 9pm - 1835 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90033), continuing his mission of creating spaces where music and neighborhood connection meet.
Dividing his time between New Mexico and his hometown of Boyle Heights in East Los Angeles, Pacheco continues to embrace this new chapter with confidence and curiosity.
