Acclaimed five-piece soul outfit Mamas Gun have signed to Blue Élan Records. Alongside the announcement, the band shares their brand new single “Food For The Flames”, a lush, analog-recorded track that captures their signature modern soul sound.
A co-write between guitarist Terry Lewis—one of the band’s longest-standing members—and frontman Andy Platts, "Food For The Flames" is a soulful and reflective track exploring the ongoing effort it takes to keep any kind of relationship alive. Using fire as a central metaphor, the song’s lyrics capture how love—like flames—requires care, attention, and fuel to keep burning brightly. It’s a celebration of vulnerability communication, and shared struggle: a reminder that love isn’t static, but something we must continually nurture and tend to, allowing it to grow stronger and more radiant over time.
Road-tested during the band’s extensive global touring over the past 2 years, the song has already become a firm favourite with audiences. “We knew when we heard this song that this was a special one,” says bassist Cameron Dawson. “There was a real excitement in the room—the sort that sends shivers.”
Mamas Guns band members include Andy Platts - the songwriting frontman with the golden falsetto; Drummer Chris Boot – the band's backbone, supplying the heaviest grooves with a jazz player's lightness of touch; Bass player Cameron Dawson, flowing and fearless echoing the spirit of James Jamerson but with a melodic sound uniquely his own; Terry Lewis, a guitarist whose taste, feel bring a warm old school validity, and last but by no means least; Dave Oliver, a dynamic keys player whose profound command of the piano, wurlitzer and hammond organ joins the dots from jazz to gospel to soul with ease.
Mamas Gun joins the Blue Élan roster alongside Platts’ other project, Young Gun Silver Fox, further deepening the label’s connection to the vibrant modern soul scene.
“For us, success is not about selling millions of records,” explains frontman Andy Platts, “but about making better records with each step we take—and really connecting with people through the music.”
“Food For The Flames” is out now worldwide and precedes more new music to come. The band will embark on their most extensive run of live shows to date, beginning with major U.K. and European tour dates before expanding into the U.S. and Asia in 2026.
