After years as a sought-after backing vocalist—sharing stages with artists ranging from Hootie & the Blowfish and Robert Randolph to Salt-N-Pepa and Musiq Soulchild—Santana delivers a deeply personal and musically expansive statement. Produced by Jesse Dayton and Blue Élan co-founder Kirk Pasich, with Dayton also co-writing much of the album with Santana, Living Through It All channels her wide-ranging influences into a sound rooted in Americana, while pulling from gospel, soul, rock, and blues traditions.
At the heart of the album is Santana’s remarkable life story. A survivor of domestic abuse who raised her two children while navigating periods of homelessness, she transforms hardship into purpose and power. Her journey extends beyond music—she is the author of Off Kilter: Getting ‘Right After Abuse, founder of the Survive2Thrive Foundation, and creator of Sanctuary PBC, an app designed to connect domestic violence survivors with safe housing.
Songs like the rousing “Keep Goin and Goin,” the gospel-charged “Hardcore Believer,” and the soaring “Holding My Own” reflect resilience and hope, while “No Apology” stands out as a fearless declaration of self-worth. Elsewhere, Santana reveals her playful edge on “Fool’s Gold” and reimagines The Guess Who’s “These Eyes” with striking emotional depth.
Recorded in Austin with a seasoned band and Dayton on lead guitar, Living Through It All is both a musical triumph and a testament to perseverance.
“I wanted people to feel seen,” says Santana. “To know that no matter what they’re facing, they already have everything they need to make it. ‘No Apology’ is about standing in that truth—without shame, without fear.”
Having spent much of her career just out of the spotlight, Courtney Santana now claims center stage with a debut that is as empowering as it is unforgettable. Living Through It All is available everywhere today.
