As the youngest of ten - with seven older brothers and two sisters - it’s no wonder that she took to the stage at the tender of age of three. Born in Dublin to a not-so-musical family, Lisa Lambe just knew that she loved to sing, act and perform.
Fast forward a decade or two, and Lisa would graduate from Dublin’s Trinity College with distinction as an actor, going on to carve an enviable career both on stage and screen. Her critically acclaimed leading roles (far too many to mention here) for a host of independent productions as well as Ireland’s National Theatre include Edna O’Brien’s The Country Girls, the smash hit musical Jimmy’s Hall and RTÉ’s Love/Hate. Acting always combined with musical collaborations which has seen her perform and record with artists such as Damien Dempsey, Hothouse Flowers, Gabe Dixon and Eddi Reader to name a few. And in 2011 came the three-year stint in the global phenomenon that is Celtic Woman, an all-female group celebrating traditional Irish music and contemporary songcraft selling more than 10 million CD’s and DVD’s worldwide.
In Ireland, Lisa Lambe is a household name. Described as a “national treasure” she has notched up pages’ worth of column inches, cover stories and live appearances across the countries’ A- List media. Yet all of these roles form part of her journey that leads to where she is now. Lisa is reluctant to single out her experience in Celtic Woman -short as it was – as an important milestone in her musical journey, yet one could argue otherwise. Brushing aside the glamour, the polished shows, the huge following and worldwide tours performing at some of the planet's most prestigious venues, it taught Lisa (aside from a wealth of vocal and performing experience) exactly what she wanted, and what she didn’t. Lisa yearned to take control, be involved in the process of making and realise her childhood ambition of creating her own music. But most importantly, there would have been no Nashville.
In 2015, after hooking up with Nashville resident, Irish drummer, Fran Breen (Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffith, The Waterboys, The Commitments), Lisa would record her debut recording, ‘Hiding Away’. Self-produced and self-released, the album was a hit in Ireland, and came to the attention of fellow Dubliner, Colin Devlin who recommended Lisa to his record label, LA based, Blue Élan, who promptly signed her to their roster.
‘Juniper’ is Lisa Lambe’s sophomore album and is a giant leap forward. Where Hiding Away included only two original songs, all of ‘Juniper’’s eleven tracks are self-penned, marking Lisa’s growth as a confident and extraordinarily gifted songwriter who, five years later, has grown into her voice; a compelling mix of soulful sweetness and a warm, powerful, husky rasp that sits somewhere between Natalie Merchant, Alison Krauss and Stevie Nicks.
