Acclaimed soul outfit Mamas Gun release their uplifting new single “Joy” today, the latest offering from their forthcoming album DIG!. Written by frontman Andy Platts and songwriter Connor Reeves, and recorded straight to 16-track analog tape at All Things Analogue Studios in Leeds, “Joy” channels the band’s blend of vintage soul textures and modern polish while delivering a timely message of optimism and connection.

“‘Joy’ is an out-and-out celebration of love—of warmth and goodness, of wonder and positivity,” says Platts. “In creating it, we wanted to make something that reaches across the endless divides, across space and time, and shout loudly from the rooftops about the power of real connection and the soul-feeding hope that joy and happiness can bring.”

Anchored by a deep-pocket rhythm section, shimmering keys, and Platts’ soaring tenor vocal, the track radiates the life-affirming energy that has become a signature of Mamas Gun’s sound. With its gospel-tinged uplift and classic soul feel—recalling the spirit of Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers — “Joy” reflects the band’s ability to channel timeless influences through a fresh, contemporary lens.

Formed in London, Mamas Gun—Andy Platts (vocals, guitar), Chris Boot (drums), Cameron Dawson (bass), Terry Lewis (guitar), and Dave Oliver (keys)—have built an international following through relentless touring across Europe, Asia, and the U.S., and through a catalogue that bridges vintage soul craftsmanship with modern songwriting. The upcoming album DIG! continues that tradition, capturing the band at a creative peak while embracing the warmth and immediacy of analog recording.

Following the groove-driven title track “DIG!”—which features legendary multi-instrumentalist Brian Jackson (Gil Scott-Heron, Stevie Wonder)—“Joy” reveals another side of the album’s emotional spectrum, offering a moment of uplift and gratitude rooted in the enduring power of soul music.

Following a UK Tour in March and April, Mama’s Gun will hit California for three coastal dates in June.
